Thanksgiving Thoughts

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration.  This year it was very easy for me to BE thankful. We have the choice to be thankful, yet this can be difficult when we feel overwhelmed by the circumstances of our life.  There are times when it seems all we can see is the problem that is facing us.  I’ve been there.  As I look back upon those seasons of my life, I realize that God gave me opportunities and godly people to help me humbly walk through them — it took trusting Him, even though I felt like sitting and giving up.  Have you been there?

The good thoughts I can share for those who are in a difficult season now would be to read what I call my theme chapter of the Bible: Psalm 1 (Amp). It is a promise to God’s children that if we will continue walking according to His Counsel (advice and example) and meditating  upon His Law (precepts and teachings) we will not only make it through the difficulty, but shall prosper (come to maturity). Dwelling in God’s Word is what changes our mind about the circumstances we face. Once we THINK right, we can then DO right, and then we will FEEL right. It is truly like being a tree planted in living water.  The Zoe (Spiritual: eternal, divine) life of God is where we receive His abundance.  And this life, referred to by Jesus in John 10:10, can then influenece our Bios (Biological: physical) and Psuche (Psychological/Soul: mind, will, emotions) life.

Start by thanking God for His great love for you. Take in His Word and renew your mind so that you will be able to comprehend the riches He offers you in Christ.  Soon you will find your mind lining up with the Word of God and thankfulness will come.  Encourage yourself in the Lord daily.

May God’s love and peace be yours this Christmas season.  Remember, God is looking for you be someone He may extend His love and mercy through — there are souls around us in need of a Saviour.

Self Pleasure

God is so smart, He cannot be fooled, nor can we out-smart Him.  As our Creator, He knows us inside and out. Because of His great love for us, He warns us many times in scripture to not become idolaters.  By that I mean, a pleasure-seeker.  We are reminded that the fulfilled and joyful life comes from seeking relationship with Him.

Someone may feel that what I just wrote reveals a very selfish God.  What kind of God says we can only find true fulfillment in Him!  Why does He have to be a part of my life in order for me to be happy? This self-centered thinking reveals the nature of man and evidence of our sinful condition.  Ignorance is not bliss, it leads to destruction.

God doesn’t give us guidelines and commandments to restrict us from pleasure and joy.  He knows what will bring us ultimate joy and peace, therefore He clearly tells us what types of pleasure and goals in life are healthy (one in spirit with Him) and those that bring us to shame and ruin.  Open and read His Word with a seeker’s heart. Humble yourself before your Awesome Creator. He loves you dearly — choose to glorify Him. This is where true and lasting joy will be found.

Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Romania! Oct 17 – Nov 12, 2017

20171102_144535My journey began in the south in Bucharest with my step-niece, missionary Becky Pertzborn, then quickly onto Rasa-Calarasi. I spent two weeks with missionaries, Reinhard and Darcey Neufeld (and crew) at Gateway to Hope at the Rasa Family Center.

On Oct 31 I began my journey north to Suceava, visiting with friends and family members.  It was a blessing to reconnect with so many of you. Thank you for all your kind hospitality! My final evening there was at Coffee Shalom where I was able to share enouragement from God’s Word with some beautiful ladies — and reconnect with ladies I hadn’t seen in 17 years!

I was able to also include a short trip to Rasnov in Transylvania, to visit Jerry & Chrissie Baker at Torchbearer’s International and see their lovely spot.  Got to visit the Bran Castle as well — I love history.  My last morning there was spent with our children’s cousins, Denesia and Simona (and family), and what a treat it was to see these beautiful young women again — all grown up!

I’m thankful for your prayers and God’s faithful hand upon me in every way.  I have a travel log posted, to view please go to Global Missions Tab.

Do you have a . . . HEART FOR THE HARVEST?

When I think of the comforts we enjoy in America I remind myself that I have an obligation to participate in the harvest of souls not only here in my village but also in the many villages around the world.  Do you live with the thought of investment in these fields? We should.  We can pray and when God gets ahold of our hearts for His harvest we will also give to send willing workers into the vast fields, where evangelism is costly and requires great sacrifice. boy-2086912__480

I recently read the monthly newsletter from Asia Harvest where Paul Hattaway reports on the massive persecution brewing across Asia.  Paul’s finger is on the pulse of Asia concerning the precious church there and if you would like to read more you can connect here to Asia Harvest.
