Rasa Family Centre
This weekend the family centre, was dedicated in Rasa, Calarasi, Romania. Missionary friends Reinhard and Darcey Neufeld, and fellow workers, and attending friends gathered to celebrate the beginnings of a new ministry they have been working on for the past two years. In April of 2015, I returned to Romania after spending two adventurous weeks with my generous sister, Jean, in Europe. This was a great opportunity for me, without additional costs, to fly onto Romania the following week. My visit to southern Romania, where missionary friends, Brad and Nora Hayes, had been living and serving for the past fourteen years, was so rewarding.
We had met Brad in West Allis, Wisconsin (a suburb of Milwaukee) where we both lived and pastored churches. We had attended one of the fundraisers for their ministry, Outstretched Hands, and appreciated the work they were doing. When we arrived back in the US in December of 2000 with our four adopted children, they were in the process of moving their entire family over to Calarasi, Romania the following spring. So I was looking forward to spending a week with them, serving in some way.
Upon my arrival, Nora said she had scheduled me to speak at various women’s gatherings and asked if I would be willing to do that. Yes! I was glad to be a part of loving these women and the building of faith in their lives through God’s Word. One of the evenings was designated as a Pro-life meeting. Nora, Darcey Neufeld, another woman and I shared encouragement and testimony of God’s plan for each child conceived and how precious the life of every child is, no matter what. Abortion was often the less expensive solution that many were turned toward, but we wanted them to know that both they and their baby were precious to God, their Heavenly Father.
Outstretched Hands has built the Hope Center and it truly is! One of the goals is for children to be fed and given preschool teaching so they have the possibility of attending school when they are old enough. Located in Caramidari, it is one of the poorest villages you will find. We met there with a small group of local ladies on my final evening. They are precious!
Through the women’s meetings, I came to know Darcey Neufeld and later met Reinhard when they took me to the Bucharest airport a few days later. Lord willing, I plan to return to Romania this fall to rejoin them and serve in this region once again. This is in southern Romania just north of the Danube River, which divides Romania from Bulgaria.
Please pray for my trip. God has been preparing me for this in many ways and I am thankful for this opportunity to serve. Please pray for God to raise up faithful givers and generous workers to serve Him by serving these women, children and families in need. Thank you. ~ Nancy
