The Testing of Faith

God has been so good to me through my journey into the painful and heart-rending experience of separation and divorce over the past 5 years. I see myself as a true miracle of God’s great grace and mercy as I look back over the many dark and lonely days of my journey.

My gratefulness to Him can never be fully expressed for all that He has worked into my heart and life through this tremendous trial. He has worked deep in my soul, showing me those places that needed change.

Five months ago, our divorce was finalized in the court. I never met the judge, he simply signed the documents; it’s over. Simple, right? — in some ways, yes, but in other ways another journey has begun. I appreciate the loving and biblical care we received, primarily from our pastors (and their wives) along with a circle of deeply caring friends, that was used by God to encourage and strengthen this weary pilgrim.

Sin always pays wages, and they are more than we could ever anticipate. Thankfully God can redeem us from the past and bring us into new life and hope in Him.[2]

[1] Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4 (ESV)

[2] May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13 (ESV)
